Who’s That Girl

Exploring the streets of Cairo looking for revolutionary graffiti one image caught my attention more than any of the others, not the fantastic murals depicting the January 25th revolt that ousted Mubarak and his forty thieves or the powerful slogans but a simple monochromatic portrait of an enigmatic women, as I trawled around the streets her haunting gaze seemed to follow me, that is to say there were hundreds of copies of the stenciled image all around the city.
Back home while researching the artists behind the images I happened across the web site of Keizer, his stencil images some of the most powerful, and there she was again, now though I knew her name, Maryam, I followed the link on his site to her Facebook page, Maryam Saleh the singer and actress, Facebook sent me to You tube and here I was able to put a voice to the image, eclectic and experimental, not the usual Arabic music, beautiful and quite brilliant.
